BonWorth Fashion Tips: 3 Do’s and Don’ts for Older Women
When it comes to fashion, no one understands the needs of older women (women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s) the way BonWorth does. It’s become a sad and unfortunate fact, but designers are more focused on dressing up the younger generation than they are the more senior members of society. And BonWorth CEO Gurumoorthy Gurusankar shares the same sentiment; “Women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s don’t have a lot of option when it comes to fashion,” he says; adding that “they are the unaddressed and neglected market of the fashion industry.”
It is for this very reason that BonWorth was founded by Mr. Loren Wells back in 1966. And 50 years later, the same market segment is still being overlooked and neglected; but thanks to a select few designers and stores like BonWorth, America’s favorite mother-daughter store, older women are being given the attention they so desperately need in terms of fashion.
When you look at the designs and styles of BonWorth fashions and accessories, they are exactly the kind of clothes that will make older women feel confident and comfortable: stylish, classic designs that are ready-to-wear. Designs follow the do’s and don’ts of fashion for older women. Some of these are the following:
1. DON’T wear tight, skimpy and/or short bottoms. DO go for classic styles
Once you hit your 40s, 50s or 60s, the same figure-hugging clothes that you wore in your 20s just won’t cut it anymore. It’s not so much as being focused on age-appropriate clothes but more of being comfortable yet still fashionable throughout the day.
2. DON’T show too much skin. DO go for sleeved tops, Capri pants, and skirts that fall just below the knee
Regardless of whether or not you have great skin, there are parts of you that will look saggy or loose because it’s a natural part of the aging process. Gravity becomes a major enemy once you reach your 40s. Tops with short sleeves or even the classic sleeveless blouse are okay but lose the spaghetti straps. In place of your favorite mini skirt, choose an A-line cut skirt that falls just below the knees. It’s flowy and comfortable, and you can complement it with your favorite pair of slip-ons or sandals. And speaking of shoes, lose the 3-inch heels for something much more comfortable. Your knees and ankles will thank you for it.
3. DON’T overdo the makeup. DO aim for the natural look
Nothing says classy and elegant than a woman who dares to bare her natural look. If you must put on makeup, go for shades that are on the lighter side or those that complement your natural skin tone. Loud makeup screams “Look at me!” and not in a flattering way.
The thing about aging when it comes to fashion is that you have to exude the confidence and class of growing old gracefully. The more you try to hide it behind clothes and makeup that are not complementary to your natural look, the more “aged” you will look.
